The young people with disabilities both gain vocational skills and get therapy by learning how to grow mushrooms in the mushroom cultivation facilities of Bağcılar Municipality, Istanbul. At present 23 trainees are involved in the mushroom cultivation course. One of the trainees, Furkan Yaşar stated: “Collecting mushrooms excites me. I’m thinking about growing and selling mushrooms in the future”. The trainer Derya Subaşı stated: “At present we have 23 trainees. The course involves champignon and oyster mushroom cultivation. The students are trained in all mushroom growing stages. Oyster mushroom cultivation is not laborious. Thus, it is easy for our students. Growing mushrooms serves as a therapy for our students. During the course they gain skills that may help them work and earn money in the future. Our trainees feel very happy here.”
